About Switch

company | core artists | associate artists | partners & friends

Switch Performance is a shape-shifting space run by artists, designed to make new things possible. It is a meeting-point for inquisitive minds, an amorphous container for live work that is hard to describe.

Switch exists to develop, nurture and support the creation of new work. Our diverse programme showcases performances of high quality and beauty. The work is engrossing, arresting and consistently difficult to categorise. It pushes boundaries, and can sometimes be challenging and provocative. It seeks to find new paths and open up new channels, both for how artists make work and for how audiences experience it.

Playing the Victim, 2007 Public Action No.1, 2008

The artists who run Switch have a passionate belief in Live Art – a complex web of approaches and practices at the borders of performance, sculpture, experimental theatre, dance and visual art. In these in-between places we make our home, allowing the undefined nature of the work to define us. Staying open to new possibilities we develop structures that are appropriate for each project, reflecting the needs of the artists and the work.

Above all Switch is its artists, a range of emerging practitioners from different disciplines. The company is led by core artists Justin Allen and Ewelina Kolaczek, and we work closely with associate artists Mark Butcher, Robin Dingemans and Helen Schoene, and others including Ania Bas, Martina von Holn, Yoko Ishiguro, Rachel Parry and Alys Williams.

Our work has been shown at venues, events and festivals in London and around the UK, including Chelsea Theatre, Queen Mary College, Torture Garden, Live Art Falmouth and Fierce!
