Core artist: Ewelina Kolaczek

I am a Polish-American, London-based performance artist and curator. I run Switch Performance with Justin Allen.

Art work

My work investigates identity and memory, the large and small ways people irretrievably influence each other and the workings of personal and social preconceptions. I create potent immersive spaces and use my body, everyday objects and the senses (especially smell and touch) as tools through which both performer and public can challenge and examine reality. I often ask you to do challenging things with and/or to me. Consenting or dissenting, you always have a choice.

Curation

I am fascinated by the possibilities for audiences to experience continuous transformations of ways of seeing things and emotional states through artists' work. I use subtle and strong juxtapositions to put into focus ever-shifting webs of connection and difference between works and our relation to them.

I have presented work at platforms such as Fierce!, Live Art Falmouth, New Moves in Glasgow and Practice (Made in Somerset), as well as work for galleries, private performances for collectors, numerous site-responsive works and public guerrilla actions. I have collaborated with and worked alongside a range of artists including Justin Allen, Janusz Baldyga, Ania Bas, Mark Butcher, Robin Dingemans, Nicola Singh and Alys Williams.
